Hello There, Guest! Login — Register. Thread Rating: 3 Vote s - 2. Threaded Mode Linear Mode. Good day fanatics, my name is Thulani, I need help with with my E90 i I parked my car outside the other afternoon and when I went back to start it it wouldn't, just a long crank.
I was told that I need to replace it and the car must be programmed. I spoke to BMW and they charge an arm and a leg to replace and re-program the car. My question is, would it be ok if I get hold of a second hand module with the same numbers on the sticker, without having to get it re-programmed?
Or if there's someone out there who can help me in whichever way, I'll appreciate it. I'm based in JHB. I have not heard about the EPK module failing so instantly without prior warning. Were you able to start and drive the car afterwards? Is it still stuck? Did they check the battery, starter etc.? You can try get hold of Gert of OBD worx. I am sure his contact details will come up if you google. If you can find a used EPK module thats exactly the same as your model car it will work and you can code it later on.
Morning Twinz, no I was not able to start the car and drive again, I called someone to come with a diagnostic machine which said the problem is the EKP. The battery and starter are fine, the car just cranks for long then nothing. I have read somewhere online that the EKP does sometimes just pack up without a warning so I guess that's the case with mine. I was hoping that if I get 1 that's exactly like mine I can skip the coding part but I guess not, thanks for suggesting Gert, I will look him up and give him a call.
Have you checked the block of fuses on the battery terminal? Might be one of them thats blown. The E61 wagon followed shortly there after. View My Garage. Hey everyone, first post here. I've been a long time reader and this community has helped me a ton over the years.Bakkesmod github
Something I can't figure out. A few weeks back I started to get a really rough idle and then a fuel pump message. I took the car on a drive after - car wash, drove a bit, and parked it back at my apartment after with no problems.
Today, I started it up and just let it idle for about 5 minutes - everything seemed pretty normal with a few tiny RPM jumps - RPM nothing crazy.
As soon as I put it in drive and drove about 10 feet the thing died on me. I started the car up again which started fine but it died really shortly after. I tried it again and on start up I went to give it some gas and it was like the gas pedal wasn't reacting or feeding any gas into the engine. Tried a few times without luck and had someone help me push it back in my parking spot.
Any clue what this might be? I'm not familiar with symptoms of a bad Fuel Pump Control Module but this is my only guess as the dealer said that it could be a problem. Does it sound like this could be the issue? Car is a i with 96k miles on it. Thanks everyone! Remove Advertisements. Did you get the codes from the dealer? You shouldyou paid for them. I'll have to check when I get home. They had told me the FPCM may be alright but wouldn't know until after the fuel pump was replaced.
Car started fine, drove it a few miles. Went to start it the second time and that's when I started having the issues above. Hi where is the fuel control module located on 04 Bmw i EA faulty fuel pump can cause poor engine performance and hard starting problems.

If you suspect your fuel pump has failed, you can confirm the fuel pump is received the correct voltage when commanded ON by the fuel pump control module using a digital volt ohm meter DVOM. If the correct voltage is present, but pump does not activate, it is likely faulty. Use the DVOM in conjunction with a wiring diagram to determine the correct terminals for testing. You can access the fuel pump electrical connector and terminals under the rear seat cushion, below an access panel.
On E90 models, a fuel pump control module is used in place on the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump module can be activated for testing using a BMW scan tool, if you do not have access to a BMW scan tool, attempting to start the vehicle will also activate the fuel pump control module, the module will send control voltage to the pump.

Instead of seeing what we are used to, battery volts supplied to the fuel pump, we now see a voltage dependent on fuel supply demand from the DME. When testing, I usually see about 10 volts being sent to the fuel pump. In this tech article, I will go over how to test fuel pressure and volume.El botones

Next, start or attempt to start engine. Fuel pressure should be 5 bar Once you test pressure. Recharge fuel system by cycling key or running fuel pump, note fuel pressure.
Then allow fuel system to sit under pressure for 15 minutes. Pressure should drop no more than 0. If it drops you could have a faulty fuel pump check valve or a leak in the fuel system.Guaranteed good working condition.Sci rockview

Which side does this part fit? What does the production month mean? When the fitment information includes a production month this means the part will only fit some of the cars within a given model year, depending on what month the car was manufactured.
Some cars begin their production earlier than September, such as the first year production for a new model. Where do I find my car's production month? The production month for your vehicle can be found on a sticker located on your front driver side door jamb. See the photo below for illustration:.

If the module is not returnable after you code it then it does come down to a monetary decision.

The BPM4 is a complete replacement solution for your factory EKP unit, which is design-limited to the factory fuel pump and thus unable to drive high capacity aftermarket fuel pumps without overheating.
This ability to run multiple high-capacity aftermarket pumps while maintaining full DME control over the low pressure closed loop control system that the vehicle was designed with, is something no other solution on the market offers.Free account fortnite
Why you need this: BMP4 controller allows you to retain the factory closed loop fuel pressure control loop, while running 1, 2 or 3 high-capacity aftermarket pumps. Other solutions that utilize a Hobbs switch to activate additional fuel pumps actually work against the DME closed loop pressure control system.
When the Hobbs switch activates, the DME is faced with a step increase in line pressure that it reacts to by lowering the output duty of the pump still under its control. The end result of this approach are massive fuel pressure oscillations caused by the DME software frantically attempting to servo the low system fuel pressure towards the target pressure levels. This intermittent operation reduces its life and reliability.
The BPM4 controller is a simple plug and play unit that will solve all of your low pressure fueling needs. The unit comes standard with 40amp fuses but can be upgraded to 50amp depending on your configuration. This slope can be left at factory EKMP levels or can be adjusted higher or lower depending on the demands of your set-up. With additional optional hardware it is also possible to log LPFP pressure and pump current. TorqBFM is an invaluable tool for diagnosing the fuel system and validating the DME tune is performing as expected for example, not pulling back commanded duty at peak engine loading.
TorqBFM PC software also allows users to manually override the fuel pumps to any desired output duty desire. Thus may be useful for diagnosing mechanical or wiring issues with the LPFP system.
Please note that this feature can cause a lot of damage if misused since it will ignore all DME commands. It should be used only for short tests and only by qualified and experienced users with an in-depth understanding of the LPFP system operation and dangers associated with using or misusing this feature. The EKPS control unit is not the same component as the fuel pump. The EKPS unit is usually installed in the trunk side panel or under the rear seat while the fuel pump is mounted on top of the fuel tank.
The engine management system sends the request for the fuel required at the moment to the EKPS control module. The EKPS control module converts this request into a corresponding engine speed for the fuel pump in the fuel tank. The EKPS control module then activates the fuel pump according to the engine speed. In some cases, the engine may start but shake then cut off. Waiting a few minutes will often allow you to restart the engine.
If you are experiencing problems a good starting point is to read fault codes from the EKPS module. To read and clear codes from the fuel pump module you will need a BMW scanner. A defective EKPS control unit, bad fuel pumps or leaky injectors can demonstrate similar symptoms.
Proper diagnostics can be a challenge even for experienced BMW technicians. Your scanner must be able to perform bi-directional tests to carry out these adaptations and activate sensors or modules. A diagnostic scanner that is capable of reading, clearing and performing bi-directional tests on BMW vehicles.
You must verify that the scanner that you use supports your BMW model and year.Cvar formula
Very helpful article. It mentions replacing the unit with a used one. I found a used one from the same vehicle I have BMW i. Do I simply just unplug the old faulty one and plug in the new used one?
Im having the same problems. I have a temporary fix. I got it cheaper than the dealer price. Followed that up to the Fuel Control Module and here I am. What does that mean? Is it the high or low fuel pump?BMW DOES NOT START E90 E91 E92 E93 CAS MODULE RELAY
